Hisar, February 24

Condemning the incidents of use of force by the police, the representatives of the Sarv Khap Panchayat held a meeting at Kandela village of Jind district and formed an 11-member committee to unite farmer bodies and khap panchayats in support of the agitation.

The panchayat adopted five resolutions and condemned the lathicharge on farmers, use of tear gas and the death of a young farmer at Khanauri-Data Singh Wala border.

Tekram Kandela, convener of the panchayat, said they wanted the agitation to continue in a peaceful manner. “Khap panchayat had played an important role in reviving and strengthening the previous agitation, when it was on the verge of collapsing on February 28, 2021. We have formed a committee to unite farmers’ bodies and ensure that the agitation remains peaceful,” he said.

The resolution adopted at the meeting included MSP for all crops, implementation of the Swaminathan Commission recommendation in toto, loan waiver for all farmers and to link the MNREGA scheme with agriculture.

At Charkhi Dadri, the Sarv Jatia Phogat khap also extended support to the agitation. Balwant Phogat, pradhan of Phogat khap, said khap panchayats of the region were ready to take any measure as per the call of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha. He said they had held a meeting and extended the support to the agitation.

Nar Singh, secretary of the Sangwan khap, said they were keeping a watch on the developments. All farmer organisations should stay united and carry on the agitation with full force. “Separate groups of farmer organisations are taking different decisions, which is creating confusing,” he said.

Meanwhile, the farmers who are staging a dharna at the Khanauri-Data Singh Wala border in Jind said they had postponed the Delhi march till February 29.
