Rohtak, November 24

A mega food park will be established on 50 acres at the Industrial Model Township (IMT) along the Delhi-Rohtak national highway here.

DC Capt Manoj Kumar said the mega food park was being set up under a scheme of the Union Ministry of Food Processing Industries at an estimated cost of Rs 179.75 crore.

“The underlying idea behind the project is to create an efficient and effective connecting link between agricultural fields and the market,” he said, adding that it was likely to be completed by September 2021.

The DC said while the farmers would directly benefit from the food park, it would also generate direct as well as indirect jobs for the locals. “The food park will have commercial plots ranging from 750 to 4,050 sq m for the small-scale entrepreneurs.”

The food park will have a multi-crop processing line for fruits and vegetables, sections for ready-to-eat foods, spices, packaging, oil extraction unit, canning, bakery, integrated milk-processing, tetra-packing and animal fodder units.

Three primary processing units associated with the Rohtak food park will be set up in Yamunanagar, Sonepat and Sirsa as well. — TNS
