Road in deplorable state

RESIDENTS have been regularly highlighting in these columns, the ruining of well laid roads in the Defence Colony, due to laying of sewerage pipelines. The contractor too is not 'bothered' to restore the same. Now, it is our lane - 9, Sector D, which has turned into slush and mud after rain on November 15-16. The road was dug six weeks back, but is still not tiled back. Pedestrians, children and commuters are suffering the most as the roads are not even safe for walking or plying vehicles. It is high time that the authorities step in and ensure that the colony roads are restored on priority. — Col RD Singh, Ambala Cantt

Speed limit signs should be displayed properly

THE speed limit signage should be properly displayed on all A and B roads of the city for two-wheelers, LMV and HCV respectively to make people aware of the maximum speed at which they can drive their respective vehicles thereby enhancing road safety and reducing road rage/accidents and pedestrian fatalities. People should also be advised to avoid horns to reduce noise pollution. — Ramit Bagga, Panchkula

Defunct bore well

UPON persistent requests of around 1,200 residents of Sunder Nagar about two years ago, a bore well was installed by the Public Health Department. But it was never made operational citing one or another reason. The water fittings and electricity connection has not been provided so far despite repeated requests by residents. This is a typical example of how much cruel could the administration be towards people. It must be made operational immediately. — Ramesh Gupta, Narwana

Non-functional streetlights

THE streetlights on the dividing road of Sector 8 and 9 from Sector 10 Gurdwara Chowk to Railway lines remain switched off most of the times during dark. Out for walk in the early morning, one finds it inconvenient and unsafe. Authorities are requested to take a note and do the needful. — Ganesh Nagpal, Ambala City

Drop superficial charges, tax in power bill

THE extant domestic electricity bills issued by the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) comprise of a host of ‘superficial charges’ on account of fuel surcharge adjustment, meter service charges, electricity duty and municipal tax apart from basic energy charges. Interestingly, the fuel surcharge adjustment also continues to be its regular feature with no end in sight. The UHBVN must review the system for the benefit of hapless domestic power consumers. — SK Gupta, Panchkula
