Jhajjar, January 24

A kisan panchayat held under the aegis of the Delhi Kisan Adhikar Morcha at Kharar village here today served a 15-day ultimatum on the district administration to provide compensation as per market rates to those farmers whose land has been earmarked for the installation of overhead high-tension power lines.

“The power lines will pass through many villages of the district. The work has been initiated but the district authorities have not yet fixed the compensation. We want compensation as per market rates,” Shamsher Singh, a farm leader, said, adding that they would not allow anyone to lay the lines until their demand was accepted.
