Post ban on single-use plastic items, Yamunanagar-Jagadhri MC, takes action against violators

With the ban on single-use plastic items from July 1, the Municipal Corporation, Yamunanagar-Jagadhri (MCYJ), has started taking action against violators.

The teams of the MCYJ have issued notices to 75 wholesalers for selling single-use plastic products and owners of banquet halls for using these products in the past one week.

These teams have also issued challans to 14 shopkeepers for selling these banned items during this period. The civic body also imposed a fine of Rs 31,000 on the said shopkeepers.

According to the information, on the direction of Municipal Commissioner, Ayush Sinha, the Municipal Corporation, Yamunanagar-Jagadhri, has formed two teams led by Chief Sanitary Inspectors Surender Chopra and Harjit Singh for Yamunanagar and Jagadhri zones.

Both teams conducted surprise inspections at several places in the twin cities on Wednesday.

As per available information, inspection was conducted by a team at shops in Khera Bazar, the Buria Gate Chownki area, Agrasain Chowk and other bazaars in Jagadhri zone, where the team issued challans to six shops and recovered single-use plastic products from there.

The other team of the MCYJ conducted inspections on Radaur Road, Railway Road, Workshop Road, Vishnu Nagar, Maharana Pratap Chowk and other places in Yamunanagar zone. The said team issued challans to eight shopkeepers here.

Ashok Kumar, Deputy Municipal Commissioner of the MCYJ, said the government had imposed a ban on sale and use of single-use plastic products.

The Deputy Commissioner said that if any shopkeeper was found selling and using single-use plastic products, action would be taken against him/her under Section 5 of the Environment Protection Act, other orders issued by the National Green Tribunal and Haryana State Pollution Control Board time to time.
