Pollution board seeks report from Rajasthan over toxic water release

The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has sought an action-taken report from the Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board (RSPCB) within 15 days regarding the chemical-mixed polluted water allegedly being released by industrial units in Bhiwadi town (Alwar) to adjoining Dharuhera town (Rewari).

The CPCB has issued the directive while acting on a complaint filed by Prakash Yadav, a resident of Kharkara village here, in this respect. He has urged the CPCB to get the people rid of this problem as the district administration has failed to redress the grievances.

Situation worse in rainy season

Parkash in his complaint claimed that the chemical-mixed liquid had been released by industrial units in the adjoining Bhiwadi town. “It reaches Dharuhera town through a drain and gets accumulated in residential sectors, highway and agricultural land there leading to great inconvenience to the locals. The drain was constructed for removal of rainwater but the Bhiwadi industries are using it to discharge its chemical-mixed liquid,” he added.

Prakash claimed the chemical-mixed polluted water was dangerous in nature as it was posing a serious threat to human health. The quality of groundwater was going down in Dharuhera town. Consequently, people have been suffering from skin, respiratory and water-borne diseases. The Rajasthan Government had requested several times that the issue be resolved but to no avail forcing him to approach the CPCB, he added.

“The situation gets worse in the rainy season as the liquid covers more area while the accumulated dirty water starts stinking. Several meetings between officers of both the states — Haryana and Rajasthan — have already been held to find out a permanent solution to the issue but it is still lying unresolved,” he maintained.

Acting on the complaint, the CPCB has also asked the RSPCB to assess the situation and send an action-taken report within 15 days not only to its office but also to the complainant.
