PM Modi speaks to athlete Sharmila in Rewari ahead of CWG

Encourages shotput player via videoconferencing

Ahead of the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, today interacted with participating sportspersons from across the country via videoconferencing.

Interacting with Sharmila in Rewari, PM extended his best wishes and that she would return to India as a winner. While encouraging the players, he said Indian players had a golden opportunity to dominate the world.

Athlete Sharmila originally hails from Mahendragarh and is a player of shotput.

Sharmila is currently practicing at Rao Tularam Stadium in Rewari. The Prime Minister said Haryana had a special place in sports events and talented players from here were bringing laurels to their village, district, state and the country across the world.

While interacting with Sharmila, the Prime Minister said she started her career in sports at the age of 34 and won the gold medal in just two years. He asked Sharmila that he definitely wanted to know how this miracle happened and what her inspiration was.
