Kurukshetra, July 30

An online fraudster allegedly lured a youth from Pehowa over phone into believing that he had won Rs 35 lakh ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ lottery and duped him of over Rs 1 lakh on the pretext of security deposit and conversion charges for receiving the winning amount.

Deepak (18), a resident of Pehowa, received a WhatsApp call, during which the fraudster told him that his mobile number had won Rs 35,70,535 in a lottery. Believing the caller, Deepak deposited Rs 12,200 on July 24.

The fraudster contacted Deepak again and convinced him to deposit Rs 25,000 more with another Rs 65,000 later. Deepak said the fraudster sought another Rs 95,000.

A case has been registered against Manish, a resident of Mumbai, under Section 420 of the IPC. —TNS
