Parivar Pehchan Bill passed in Haryana Assembly session

Show comments

Chandigarh, August 24

Amid opposition from the Congress, the Assembly today passed the Haryana Parivar Pehchan Bill, 2021, aimed at creating a database of all families in the state for availing government facilities.

Terming the Bill “draconian”, Kiran Choudhry of the Congress alleged that the law was an infringement of the right to privacy and would expose the common man to snooping.

However, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar claimed that 64 lakh families had already been registered. “The state should have specific data, which will help identify eligible beneficiaries,” he said. — TNS
