Gurugram, February 21

The Haryana Police have slapped UAPA (Unlawful Activities Prevention Act 1967) on Congress MLA Mamman Khan in connection with the Nuh communal violence. The Sections have been added to a challan presented in a court. The police claimed that Mamman Khan was allegedly running a dedicated IT cell. He allegedly sent instigating messages during the Nuh riots on July 31 to flare up communal tension, they claimed.

The MLA from Ferozepur Jhirka constituency has also been accused of paying people to attack the Braj Mandal yatra and create ruckus.

Khan’s advocate Tahir Ruparia, while speaking to The Tribune, said that addition of UAPA charge after seven months clearly hinted at malicious intent and it would be contested.

“The allegations are same for the last seven months. No supplementary statements have been made or new evidence came. Khan was investigated by SIT, so what new basis made the Nuh Police believe that he qualified for UAPA. It is politically motivated and we will contest it,” he said.

The Congress unit of district has come out in support of Khan alleging witch-hunting. Senior Congress leader and Nuh MLA Aftab Ahmed said that the Nuh Police have so far failed to provide any concrete evidence to include these Sections and claimed that it was a mere cover-up by the Khattar Government in Nuh.

“Mamman Khan is not a terrorist but democratically elected representative who stood against cow vigilantism and hooliganism. He is being framed. The police have failed to prove anything against him and thus are now misusing UAPA. We want an independent agency to look into it,” said a close aide of Khan.
