Gurugram, February 23

Nuh, the most backward district of the state inhabited by Meo Muslims, has been left wanting in the state Budget of 2024-25 presented by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.

The district that has been ailing due to various infrastructural deficiencies in health, education, public transport etc has failed to get any major project except a mention of an upcoming airstrip near the Mumbai expressway. It’s been over a decade that Nuh has been every year expecting a dedicated railway line connecting it to parts of Haryana and Rajasthan along with a university, irrigation channels, potable water lines, hospitals and schools. However, no major announcement was made in this regard.

CM Khattar and Nuh MLA Aftab Ahmed briefly discussed this in the Vidhan Sabha when Khattar urged him to clap on the announcement of the airstrip, but Ahmed dismissed it as mockery of the district.

“This district is most backward and struggles for basic infrastructure and the Budget has yet again proved that it’s BJP’s step-son,” said Aftab Ahmed. “For almost a decade the farmers here are waiting for irrigation water, students are waiting for a university and patients for more medical facilities, but they got nothing. The common man here does not own a plant or an industry that he would be benefitted by the air strip. They want trains to travel in Haryana and Rajasthan, but got nothing.”

Haryana has five airstrips, but none of them are located in Delhi-NCR and the nearest airstrip is in Bhiwani, which is quite far from Gurugram and Faridabad.

The idea should be to build the airstrip close to Gurugram to ensure easier commute within in the NCR by connecting the air route with major highways. The dependence on the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport will also reduce.
