No-confidence motion by Congress against Haryana's Khattar Govt accepted

Haryana Assembly Speaker Gian Chand Gupta accepted a no-confidence motion moved by main opposition party Congress against the Council of Ministers led by state Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar here today. The motion was moved by Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda and 25 others.

After admitting the motion on the first day of the Budget session of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha, the Speaker scheduled a two-hour discussion on February 22.

The motion was accepted after a head count of over 18 MLAs, who stood up in favour of the motion as is required under the rules.

The BJP has 41 MLAs in the 90-member House while its alliance partner, the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP), has 10 MLAs. Six Independent MLAs support the BJP, which also has the support of the lone Haryana Lokhit Party MLA Gopal Kanda. The Congress has 30 MLAs, while the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) has one.

While commenting on the glass panels put up in the press gallery in the name of security to prevent a Parliament-like ‘attack’, CM Khattar urged the Speaker to get those removed. “These are alright for the visitor’s gallery but there should be no panels in the media gallery,” he said. The Speaker said that the issue had already been discussed and these would be removed at the earliest.

Congress MLA Neeraj Sharma was not allowed to enter the Vidhan Sabha as his clothes were carrying religious signs and slogans, and was allowed to enter only after changing the clothes.
