NDRI gets Krishi Hackathon award

The ICAR-NDRI team Pashudhan Unified Kramank and Automatic Recognition (PUKAR) bagged second position in the Kritagya Hackathon 2.0, which was organised by the National Agriculture Higher Education Programme (NAHEP) in association with the Animal Science Division of ICAR. As many as 269 teams participated across the country in this competition conducted between September 2021 and January 2022.

Dr MS Chauhan, Director, NDRI and Dr BN Tripathi, Deputy Director-General, Animal Sciences, ICAR, are the mentored of this team. The team PUKAR proposed a solution that was a 15-digit alpha-numeric nomenclature system with a chip tagged in the animal to prevent animal trafficking and tracing the animal’’s origin in a more reliable way during any disease outbreak and natural calamity. Another NDRI team, AI4AI, comprised of Dr Dheer Singh, Joint Director (Research) and Dr Suneel Kumar Onteru, Principal Scientist, Animal Biochemistry Division, was recognised for their work in the field of cow estrus detection technology.

Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmer Welfare, handed over the award to team leader Dr Anil Kumar Puniya, Principal Scientist and head, Dairy Microbiology Division, who was the leader of the team PUKAR at the National Agricultural Science Complex (NASC) in New Delhi during a summit of VCs of all state agricultural universities and directors of ICAR institutes on Wednesday. —
