Meghalaya cop dies in mishap

Meghalaya police official Amit Sinha, associated with the office of the Superintendent of Police in Ri Bhoi, tragically lost his life in a car accident here on Saturday.

Ri Bhoi SP Jagpal Sing Dhanoa confirmed the demise of unarmed branch Sub-Inspector Sinha in the accident that occurred around 3 am. Amit, who was on an official visit to Delhi, was travelling with his friend Digvijay Singh at the time of the incident.

According to the FIR, the two had gone to Sector 58 for a meal and were returning to their accommodation in Sector 50 around 3.30 am. Their Mercedes was hit from behind by an unidentified vehicle near Sanar International Hospital.

The collision caused their vehicle to lose balance and crash into a divider, resulting in injuries to both occupants.

Sinha had previously served as the in-charge of Khapmara Police Information Checks and Byrnihat Police Outpost before his transfer to the Crime Branch of the Ri Bhoi Police.
