Yamunanagar-Jagadhri MC issues challans to 50 shopkeepers for using single-use plastic products

Two teams of the Municipal Corporation, Yamunanagar-Jagadhri (MCYJ) have issued challans to 50 shopkeepers in the twin cities in the past four days for using single-use plastic products.

The teams headed by Chief Sanitary Inspectors, Harjit Singh (Jagadhri zone) and Surender Chopra (Yamunanagar zone) also imposed a fine of Rs 67,000 on the violators during this period.

The team of Jagadhri zone issued challans to three shopkeepers in Jagadhri today after it recovered banned polythene and single-use plastic from them. The team also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on the violators.

According to information, on July 28, the team of Jagadhri zone issued challans to four shopkeepers and the team of Yamunanagar zone issued challan to 10 shopkeepers. Both teams also imposed a fine of Rs 8,000 on violators.

Taking action against those selling single- use plastic, both teams of the MCYJ issued challans to 24 shopkeepers in Yamunanagar and Jagadhri zones on July 27. The teams also imposed a fine of Rs 45,000 on the violators.

The team of Yamunanagar zone raided several places on July 26 and issued challans to nine shopkeepers imposing a fine of Rs 9,000 on them.

According to information, these teams have been formed on the instructions of Municipal Commissioner Ayush Sinha to stop the use of single-use plastic products in the twin cities of Yamunanagar and Jagadhri.

Additional Municipal Commissioner Dheeraj Kumar and Deputy Municipal Commissioner Ashok Kumar said 19 types of single-use plastic had been banned since July 1.

They said, if any shopkeeper or anyone was caught using or selling it, then action would be taken against him.

Parth Gupta, Deputy Commissioner, Yamunanagar, said special steps were being taken to stop the use of single-use plastic products in Yamunanagar district.

He said six teams had been formed to stop the use of single-use plastic products under the Municipal Committee area, Radaur.

He further said the said teams raided six places in Radaur and issued challans to 14 shopkeepers from July 1 to July 29 and imposed a fine of Rs 17,500 on the violators.

He added that so far, 24 challans had been issued by the Municipal Committee, Sadhaura, which also collected a fine of Rs 16,500 from the violators.
