Landslide at illegal mining site in Haryana's Mahendragarh, 1 dead

Mahendragarh, January 19

A man was killed and another sustained severe injuries in a landslide at an illegal mining site at Jainpur village of Nangal Choudhary region on Wednesday. Deputy Commissioner Ajay Kumar has formed a panel to probe the matter. This is the second such incident in the state in the past 19 days. Sources said the landslide occurred in the morning while illegal mining was being carried out in the Aravalli forest zone on the Haryana-Rajasthan border.

People working nearby rushed to the spot and pulled out two persons from the debris. One of them died on the spot while the other was taken to hospital, sources said. The victims were yet to be identified even as authorities claimed both belonged to Patan village of Rajasthan and were relatives. No case was registered till the filing of this report.

The DC said a team led by SDM Manoj Kumar, DSP Narendra Sangwan, BDPO Pramod Kumar and other officers was rushed to the spot to initiate rescue operations. “It is a case of illegal mining. The police are trying to identify the accused. Residents of nearby villages are being questioned,” the DC said. He maintained no mining activity was allowed at Jainpur village.
