Rohtak: Labourer's daughter makes it to BTech

Pooja, daughter of a migrant labourer who lives with his family in a hutment on a footpath in Rohtak, has secured admission in BTech Computer Science at Banasthali University in Rajasthan.

Pooja is the second of four daughters of watchman Kailash and his wife Manku.

She cleared her Class X and XII with the support of Gandhi School, a philanthropic educational institute dedicated to the education of underprivileged children.

“She has not only studied at Gandhi School for seven years, but also taught other underprivileged children junior to her,” Naresh, convener of the school, said.

Pooja has also participated in various activities aimed at spreading awareness about social issues. She was also selected by the Dalmia group for an academic scholarship.

During her school days, she was supported by Rohtak-based philanthropists and supporters of Gandhi School in her studies, especially during the Covid era. Pooja was given a warm send-off by students, teachers and volunteers of Gandhi school.

“I have been fortunate to have the support of so many teachers and well-wishers, who helped me in realising my dream. I have always believed that everyone should work hard and strive for success in life,” Pooja said.
