Yamunanagar, June 15

A newly builty road overbridge on the Yamunanagar-Kurukshetra road near Chandpur colony here was on Tuesday thrown open to the vehicular movement.

Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL), which was entrusted with the construction work, said the road overbridge had been built in a record minimum time of 120 hours.

This stretch of the road, which is considered a lifeline of the city, was closed on Thursday evening for the construction work.

The district administration had diverted traffic to other routes, but commuters faced a difficult time due to long jams on alternate routes.

“I am a daily commuter and use this stretch on the Yamunanagar-Kurukshetra road to go to my office in Industrial Area. However, due to the closure of the road, I witnessed long traffic jams on alternate routes,” said Rahul Kumar, a resident of Radaur town.

Pankaj Gupta, chief general manager, DFCCIL, Ambala, said,“It was a challenging task to build a road overbridge on the dedicated freight corridor railway line here in a minimum possible time.”

He said DFCCIL, Ambala unit, in close coordination with contractor M/S Tata Projects Limited, planned the construction using an innovative technique.

“Limited site space and proximity to the Railway electricity lines carrying live 25 KV current made the task look more difficult and challenging,” said Gupta.

He said, “Meticulously planning, close coordination with the operators of cranes, hydra cranes, JCB machines and multi-tasking work force enabled us to complete a mammoth task in a short period, with success and safety.”
