Koriyawas medical college project in its final stage

Over five years after the foundation stone was laid, the construction work of the Government Medical College and Hospital in Koriyawas village under the Nangal Choudhary area has reached its final stage.

The MBBS course will likely be introduced in the college in the coming academic session with a total of 150 seats as all formalities in this respect have been completed.

As per official information, around 90 per cent of the construction work has been completed and the authorities have directed the officials concerned to ensure the completion of the remaining work before the admission process.

The foundation stone of the project was laid by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in December 2018 while its construction work was started in 2019 at an estimated cost of Rs 500 crore. At that time, it was claimed that the project would be completed within two years but it remained in a limbo during the Covid period.

The deadline was later extended up to April 2022. Later, fund crunch slowed down the pace of construction.

Being established over 76 acres, the project comprises a hospital with 810 beds along with the college building. The campus will also have hostels for boys and girl, four types of residences for doctors and other employees, an administrative block, an Ayush block, a guest house, mortuary and a sports complex.

Deputy Commissioner Monica Gupta said 90 per cent of the work had been completed while the building was likely to be handed over for emergency services and OPD by March.

“The total cost of the project will be Rs 725.90 crore and Rs 507 crore out of this has been spent. The building is being constructed on 1.65 lakh sq m. On completion, the medical college will strengthen healthcare facilities in the region,” she added.
