Hisar, March 1

Khap panchayat and farmer bodies today started an indefinite dharna near NH-152 D near Samaspur village in Charkhi Dadri district today and opposed the government’s decision to cancel the passport and attach properties of farmer activists.

Unaware of order on passport: Dy CM

Kaithal: Deputy CM Dushyant Chautala has said he was not aware of any directions with regard to the cancellation of passports of protesting farmers. "Visas and passports are cancelled by the embassy concerned and Ministry of External Affairs," he said.

Phogat Khap pradhan Balwant Singh Numbardar said the government was trying to intimidate the farmers by issuing threats of attaching their properties and cancelling passports. “Such tricks will not stop us from raising our voice. The farmers are fighting for their legitimate rights,” he said.

Khap and farm activists were all geared up to participate in a kisan mahapanchayat to be held in Delhi on March 14. “We have the support of various khaps, farmer bodies and employees’ unions and associations. The dharna will continue until the government accepts the demands of the farmers. The ASHA Workers Association has also extended support to the dharna,” he said.

The khap panchayat had recently served an ultimatum on the government. On completion of the ultimatum, the activists today pitched tents near the highway between Charkhi Dadri and Samaspur.

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) and BKU held meetings in Hisar and Jind districts and urged the activists to mobilise support for the Delhi mahapanchayat.

A “sarv jatiya” mahapanchayat from entire Haryana will be organised at Palwa village of Jind district tomorrow to seek the release of farmers.
