Two projects under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme have been given extension to complete the work by the Karnal Municipal Corporation (KMC) as the deadline of one project has been missed and the second too is about to lapse by the end of this month. As per the authorities, a lot of work is pending in both projects.

As per the information collected by The Tribune, under the AMRUT scheme, six projects were taken up, including construction of laying of sewers, storm water lines, constructing sewerage treatment plants (STPs), installing water harvesting system, and intermediate pumping stations (IPS).

Of these six projects, two have been completed, including the construction of 50 MLD STP, while a penalty has been imposed on two agencies working on two other projects.

Of the remaining two projects, the deadline of which has been extended, one is of laying sewerage network, construction of intermediate pumping station in Daha Jagir, Kambopura, Madanpur and 8 MLD STP in Kambopura. The project was started on October 25, 2020, and was to be completed by September 30, 2022, but a lot of work is pending.

Out of the total laying of 24,600 metres pipeline, only 15,500 metres have been laid, while the civil work of the STP has been completed, but the mechanical work is pending.

Besides, the deadline of the project on construction of cement concrete roads in different areas has also been extended to November end this year. The project started on February 18, 2022 and was to be completed by the end of August 2022, but so far the work on one road has been completed, while the work of laying the paver blocks on four roads is under way, the work on two roads is yet to start.

“I have reviewed the work under the AMRUT scheme and found that a lot of work is pending. The deadlines of two projects have been extended and the agencies have been asked to complete these, or else the penalty will be imposed. The deadline of the project related to roads has been extended to November end, while the deadline of the second project of laying the sewerage network, construction of intermediate pumping station and the 8 MLD STP, has been extended to January 2023 end,” said Ajay Tomar, Commissioner, KMC.
