Kaithal Civil Hospital to have oxygen plant

With an aim to meet the medical oxygen demand of the District Civil Hospital (DCH), which had faced its shortage during the Covid second wave and got the facility from Jind and Karnal, the state government has started the process to install a pressure swing adsorption (PSA) oxygen generating plant on the hospital premises.

Compressor and other equipment are being installed by the company assigned for the project, said Dr Shailender Mamgain Shelly, Civil Surgeon.

The district has 200-bed hospital, of which 115 have been dedicated as isolation ward for adult patients, while 22 for paediatrics group, said the Civil Surgeon, adding that the new plant would have a capacity to generate 1000 litre oxygen per minute.

The PSA oxygen plant absorbs nitrogen from ambient air to concentrate oxygen for supply to the hospital, he added.

“We are hopeful that its trial run will start in a couple of days,” Dr Shelly further said.
