Hisar, February 20

With some khap panchayats and farmers’ bodies in Jind, Hisar, Fatehabad, Sirsa and Bhiwani districts coming forward to extend support to the stir, the administration is set to face a tough challenge.

A mahapanchayat of Jind district today announced to set up a pucca morcha on the highway in front of the mini secretariat in Uchana subdivision from tomorrow. Representatives of 12 khap panchayats and 11 farmers’ organisations gathered at the mahapanchayat.

Farm leader Azad Palwa informed that they had decided to start a pucca morcha at the Jind-Uchana highway by blocking one side of the four-lane road opposite the mini secretariat. They had also received messages of support from 24 other khap panchayats in Jind district.

The meeting also adopted a resolution demanding the immediate opening of roads, restoration of Internet services and release of arrested farmer leaders. “The farmers of Punjab are being prevented from going to Delhi by erecting a huge wall on the Punjab-Haryana border. We strongly condemn these kinds of measures. They have started the agitation to demand welfare measures for farmers of the entire country. But the state government seems to be trying to create fault lines between the farmers of Haryana and Punjab. It will never happen as the farmers of Haryana, Punjab and other states are united and geared up to struggle for their demands,” he added.
