Jhajjar, November 24

After recording an increase of 39 points in 2019, Jhajjar district has registered a drop of 34 points in sex ratio at birth (SRB) in the past 10 months. This is despite the unearthing of seven sex determination test rackets this year.

The district’s SRB was 914 in 2019 and it was at the 16th position. It went down to 880 up to October 31 this year, slipping to last position.

7 sex determination rackets busted

Seven sex determination rackets being run from Bahadurgarh, Ghaziabad and Noida have been busted. We have tightened the noose around private ultrasound centres by conducting raids.

Achal Tripathi, nodal officer (PNDT), said they had toiled this year to improve SRB, but the results so far were unexpected. He said they were hopeful about improvement in SRB by the end of the year.

“Seven sex determination rackets being run from Bahadurgarh, Ghaziabad and Noida have been busted. We have tightened the noose around private ultrasound centres in the district by conducting raids. It seems that locals are visiting Uttar Pradesh and other places for sex determination tests,” he said.

Dr Sanjay Dahiya, Civil Surgeon, said they were focusing on awareness about female foeticide by telling people the adverse effects of skewed sex ratio on the next generation.
