Jhajjar: Six health officials booked for issuing fake birth certificates

A case of issuance of fake birth certificates twice to the same child showing different years of birth has come to the fore during a preliminary inquiry conducted by the district health officials. A complaint was lodged by a social outfit in this regard.

The involvement of health officials in the case has also been established during the inquiry, hence a case against six health officials, including a doctor, health inspector, two staff nurses and an ANM, has been registered. They have been booked on charges of cheating and forgery.

Sunil Kumar, secretary, Pahal Youth Club, in his complaint claimed that Reyan of Jhajjar district was born at the PGIMS in Rohtak on March 21, 2011. Reyan’s father is an Army personnel and mother is employed in the Health Department. The motive behind the fake birth certificates was to get benefits under the Army quota, he alleged.

“Reyan’s relative is working as an ANM at a sub-health centre in Akheri Madanpur village. By misusing her position, she got his name registered there by showing a fake delivery on papers in March, 2012. Thereafter, another fake birth certificate was issued from the Community Health Centre, Jamalpur, in 2013,” alleged the complainant in his statement lodged with the police.

DSP Naresh Kumar said the social outfit had given a written complaint to the Senior Medical Officer (SMO), Community Health Centre, Jamalpur, who later conducted the inquiry.

“The inquiry disclosed that three birth certificates were issued to the son of the Army personnel in March 2011, 2012 and 2013. Out of them, two birth certificates issued in 2012 and 2013 were found to be fake. An investigation is underway to find out the involvement of other persons in the matter while a case under Sections 420, 467, 468 and 471 of the IPC has been registered against six persons in this regard,” he added.

Shakti Singh, Deputy Commissioner (DC), said an FIR had been registered and appropriate action would be taken against the guilty.

He has exhorted the people not to indulge in such illegal acts and also inform the district administrative authorities if they get any information about such acts and other persons indulging in it.
