Gurugram, January 22

High drama was witnessed in the Shiv Nagar area on Wednesday after a local jeweller fled with his family after allegedly duping over 100 persons in the name of lottery and jewellery investment. Local women staged a protest outside his shop as they had mortgaged their jewellery with him. The police have registered a complaint.

A victim, Sunil Yadav, a resident of Shiv Nagar, said accused Ajay Raghav, a native of Bulandshahar in Uttar Pradesh, came to Shiv Nagar around 15 years ago with his brother Ram Avtar. They took a rented house and started their jewellery shop. They eventually build a three-storey house adjoining the shop. Sunil said he had been duped of Rs 8 lakh.

Another resident Radha Devi said, “I am in immense trauma and shock. My daughter’s marriage is on February 25 and I had saved Rs 8 lakh for it. I had invested it in lottery being run by the jeweller. He had a big house here and nobody could think that he could flee. I was shocked when I heard people screaming outside his locked house. My entire family is against me now. Everything has been ruined.”

It was apparently on Sunday night when the accused and his brother went missing. People waited for three days and then called the police.

More than 80 persons, including Surender Sharma, Shri Krishan and Meena, filed complaints with the police.

“We are investigating all angles. Action will be taken as per the law,” said Inspector Manoj Kumar, SHO of Shiv Nagar police station.
