Imam booked for rape attempt

An imam of a mosque in Yamunanagar district allegedly made a rape attempt on a woman of Chhachhrauli town of the district.

On the complaint of the victim, a case was registered against the imam, identified as Abdul Razak of Saharanpur (Uttar Pradesh) at the Chhachhrauli police station on Friday.

In her complaint, the victim said Razak had come to her house on February 16. She added that her mother-in-law was not at home at that time and her brother-in-law was sleeping in a room in the house.

“When the imam came to our house on February 16, he started molesting me and tried to rape me. When I raised an alarm, my brother-in-law woke up. When he tried to save me, the imam manhandled him,” the complainant said.

Chhachhrauli Station House Officer Sumit Kumar said a case had been registered against the suspect and he would be arrested soon.
