'Illegally' adopted infant rescued from Jind dera

Haryana State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (HSCPCR) chairperson Jyoti Bainda on Wednesday raided the ‘Mangalmukhi Reshmaai Ka Dera’ in Narwana of Jind district and rescued an “illegally” adopted infant.

Bainda said the one-and-half-month-old girl was adopted by dera head Reshamamai without the consent of her parents.

The parents of the infant were not aware that their child was being handed over to the Mangalmukhi Samaj for adoption.

ILLEGAL PROCESS

All papers related to the case are incomplete. The society, run by transgenders, has no right and provision to adopt a child. So the process is completely illegal and the infant has been held hostage against the consent of her parents. —Jyoti Bainda, HSCPCR chairperson

In this regard, the Child Protection Officer was instructed to contact the parents and make them aware of the adoption rules. Bainda said the adoption of the child was found to be “completely illegal”.

The infant will now stay with the nearest Special Adoption Agency. Bainda said taking away a newborn or minor child from his or her guardians or parents was considered an offence of trafficking, kidnapping and hostage. It comes under the category of child abuse.

Meanwhile, another six-year-old child present in the dera was also sent to his parents.
