Karnal, June 11

Haryana’s first gas-insulated (GIS) electrical substation started operation from today at Jaton Gate in the city under the Integrated Power Development Scheme of the Union Government.

Two feeders — 11KV Novelty road and 11KV Meera Ghati — were linked with this substation on Friday. Two more feeders — 11 KV Shyam Nagar and 11 KV Chand Sarai — will be attached with it from Saturday.

A maximum of 10 feeders can be added to it which will provide electric supply to around 11,500 consumers. It was set up at the cost of Rs 11.6 crore in comparison to Rs 4 crore for the conventional 33-KV sub-station.

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Thursday inaugurated this project through videoconferencing. This substation has been set up in the heart of the city, which was a long-pending demand of the residents, but due to space crunch in the city area, it was not possible to go for a conventional sub-station.

Officials claim GIS-based substation requires 40 per cent less land in comparison to a conventional substation. About the benefits, SK Tiwari, Superintending Engineer, said that the panels being provided at GIS-based sub-station are maintenance free.
