Haryana schools not adhering to EWS quota rules, get notice

Private schools in Faridabad and Gurugram districts are not complying with the Haryana Government’s rules on providing 10 per cent seats to children from the economically weaker section (EWS).

In Faridabad, 958 (82 per cent) of the 1,178 private unaided schools have not submitted the EWS quota details to the government, while 182 (89 per cent) of the 204 private schools in Gurugram have failed to provide the data.

The authorities have now decided to take action against the schools that have defaulted on providing information. “We have issued notices to these schools, seeking their reply on why they have failed to submit the required information by the (February 24) deadline,” said Shashi Ahlawat, District Elementary Education Officer (DEEO).

Gurugram DC Amit Khatri said the department was reviewing the situation and would take suitable action.

Ahlawat said the management of such schools was liable for punitive action such as suspension or withdrawal of recognition or NOC under Rule 42 of the Haryana School Education Rules. The authorities had issued a reminder to all schools on February 3 that they were required to submit the information on the EWS seats by February 24.

While the process of accepting online applications for admission in the new academic session will begin in March, the list of the 10 per cent reserved seats is likely to be finalised by either March-end or the first week of April, according to sources.
