Illegal mining, the alleged collapse of law and order in Haryana and threat calls to MLAs are among the issues expected to dominate the proceedings of the monsoon session of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha, which begins tomorrow.

The Congress, sources said, would try to corner the government on the on-duty DSP’s death in Nuh while he was checking illegal mining and also on the thriving mafia in the state. The increasing incidence of drug abuse, rising unemployment and the Agnipath scheme are some of the other issues the party would take up during the three-day session.

“There seems no law and order in Haryana if MLAs get threats and a DSP is killed on duty. The MLAs are not satisfied with the government’s handling of the situation. The search operations carried out at villages in Nuh after the DSP’s death were aimed at harassing people and the Congress will take that up along with the government’s failure in checking corruption,” said Deputy Leader of the CLP, Aftab Ahmed, adding that the party was also bringing a resolution on seeking Haryana’s share in Panjab University, Chandigarh.

The Indian National Lok Dal’s lone MLA, Abhay Singh Chautala, said the two main issues in the state were the result of a collapsed law and order situation. “A DSP dies on duty, illegal mining is rampant and MLAs receive threat calls. The government owes an explanation for its failure. I have given 10 calling attention motions of which only three have been accepted,” he said, adding that the growing drugs menace in the state needed the attention of the government. The government, the sources said, was ready with its “action-taken report” on the issues the Opposition had flagged.
