Haryana Diary : Officials face embarrassment

Show comments

Rewari: Two officials of the district administration faced embarrassment during the annual-day function of a health institute when Union Minister Bhupinder Yadav asked them to leave the venue. Actually, the officials sitting on the dais were busy in talks when the minister was addressing the gathering. Irked at this, Yadav lost his patience. “Officers, do not talk. Stand up and go outside,” said the minister. The officers then walked out of the function. A video of the incident also went viral on social media, which later became a talk of the town.

Running from pillar to post for justice

Ambala: If the sitting members of the civic body run from pillar to post, making complaints regarding the functioning of officials with the higher authorities, one can gauge the inconvenience being faced by the general public. Recently, the elected and nominated members belonging to the BJP were seen approaching corporation commissioner and deputy commissioner alleging corruption, following which Ambala City SDM had to visit the civic body. The members claimed that they were facing the wrath of the public for the inconveniences caused by the corporation officials.

Factionalism among traders’ bodies

Panipat: Factionalism among the traders’ associations has become a talk of the town among shopkeepers here. Two groups – Sanyukt Vyapar Mandal (SVM) and Sanyukt Vyapar Mandal Samiti (SVMS) – are leading thousands of traders in over 60 markets in the city. Each market has two presidents, one of the SVM and other of the SVMS. Earlier, there was only SVM leading the traders here but around three years ago the SVM divided into two groups. Now, the factionalism in traders’ associations is on high as both the groups are engaged in including the heads of each other group in their groups. Even the traders in various markets have now started saying that these groups are no longer concerned with the traders’ problems.

Civic body scam, litmus test for probe agency

Faridabad: The ongoing probe into the Municipal Corporation scam running into several crores is seen as a litmus test for the Vigilance Department. Five persons, including four civic body officials, have already been arrested. It would be interesting to see whether the probe agency will nail the senior officials under whose tenure the scam took place. During the investigation, it has been revealed that payments were made with knowledge of the top officials concerned and even some MLAs, sources say. The probe agency has sought permission to interrogate some IAS officers, but will it be able to nail the top rung of the racket or conclude with the arrest of lower-rung officials is the main question, says a social activist.

BJP leaders continue to work from home

Gurugram: Despite repeated appeals, a majority of district BJP leaders continue to work from home rather than going to the party building Guru Kamal. Even party president JP Nadda had asked all to leave their drawing rooms and get together at office or booths. To put defaulters in line, the party plans to get a biometric machine installed in the office. The leaders have been asked to work at least one day from office and take public or workers’ meetings from here.

Minister’s gesture towards writer

Chandigarh: Haryana Power Minister Ranjit Singh set an example of humility on his visit to Chandigarh. Singh, who was the chief guest at a function at Tagore Theatre, Chandigarh, was approached by Sirsa-based Punjabi writer Kirpal Singh Aspal, who expressed his inability in finding a lodging facility to stay for the night. A book written by Aspal was also released at the function. The minister not only arranged an accommodation for Aspal but also offered him a ride in his official vehicle when he got to know that the writer had come to Chandigarh by bus. It’s time for Ranjit Singh’s Cabinet colleagues to take a cue from him.
