Show comments

Hisar: The suspension of Internet services in Hisar and several other districts affected by the farmers’ ongoing agitation has proven beneficial to companies providing LAN-based Internet. BSNL and several private service providers have witnessed a surge in the number of applications for the LAN-based Internet service over the past few days. Owing to the sudden increase in the demand, the customers have to wait for three to five days before being provided a connection.

Vij earns ‘good’ man praise from Charuni

Kurukshetra: Bhartiya Kisan Union (Charuni) chief Gurnam Singh has praised state Home Minister Anil Vij for his style of functioning and holding Janta Darbars to redress the people’s grievances. The BKU leader said the Assembly elections are coming and even though it is the BJP’s internal matter, he would advise the party to promote ‘good’ men instead of ‘yes’ men as candidates for the poll. “Vij is a good man and the BJP would not get a better person than him,” he said.

Yadav touted for Bhiwani-M’garh LS seat

Mahendragarh: Union Minister Bhupinder Yadav’s name is doing the rounds as a prospective BJP candidate from the Bhiwani-Mahendragarh Lok Sabha seat, and his supporters have reportedly started exploring different locations in the district to open an election office. “We have information that the party is contemplating fielding Yadav from Mahendragarh. Hence, we are looking for a suitable accommodation for his election office in the district,” said one of his supporters.

Mela concludes, residents relieved

Faridabad: The conclusion of the 17-day 37th Surajkund International Crafts Mela has brought relief to many residents of the area — government officials would now be available to listen to the grievances of public at their offices! “They had reportedly been busy in organising the mela,” said a resident. Routine work in government offices had been adversely affected due to their unavailability. In addition to this, the problem of traffic jams on the Surajkund road, which is also an alternative route to Delhi, would also end, said another resident.

Aspirants for Congress ticket gear up for poll

Panipat: A large number of Congress ticket hopefuls for the Panipat Rural Assembly constituency have intensified their activities. They have started visiting the constituency regularly and are organising programmes to woo the voters. However, since the number of hopefuls is large, getting the ticket is going to be a huge challenge — to say nothing of eventually winning the seat! Political analysts said it would be among the hot seats in the Assembly elections as it would be very tough to select a candidate. If a major leader was ignored, the prospects of the party’s candidate might be affected, the expert said.

People upset as thermal plant stone not laid

Yamunanagar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was to virtually lay the foundation stone of an 800 MW ultra-supercritical thermal power plant unit on the premises of Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram Thermal Power Plant in Yamunanagar on February 16. However, since the foundation was not laid for unknown reasons, the residents of the district were left disappointed, for they had been hoping that it would provide employment opportunities to them.
