Chandigarh, July 27

Chief Secretary Sanjeev Kaushal today said that to ensure a complete ban on single-use plastic in the state, regular monitoring and raids should be conducted on manufacturing units and major wholesalers and suppliers.

The Chief Secretary was presiding over the review meeting of the 2nd special task force committee constituted to check the use of single-use plastic in the state here today.

Kaushal said: “Plastic manufacturing units should be identified at the district level and dedicated efforts should be made to completely ban the use of single-use plastic. Apart from this, surprise checking should also be done on wholesalers and retailers.”

He said a strict vigil had to be kept on the plastic coming from outside the state. A campaign should be organised with the help of traders’ associations and shopkeepers to spread awareness among the masses.
