Around 30 persons were questioned by the police over the past one week to zero in on the suspects in connection with INLD state chief Nafe Singh Rathi’s murder. Many of them are reportedly associated with various gangs.

Two suspects arrested in INLD chief murder case.

Will move HC for CBI probe: Abhay

Jhajjar: INLD senior leader and MLA Abhay Singh Chautala said Nafe Singh Rathi’s murder case should be investigated by the CBI under the supervision of a sitting judge of the High Court. “We don’t believe that the government will be able to provide justice to the bereaved family, hence we will soon file a writ in the HC praying that the case be probed by the CBI under the supervision of a HC judge,” he said while interacting with the media at “Rasam Tehravi” of Rathi in Bahadurgarh town here on Monday. Suspects Sachin and Ashish of Nangloi (Delhi) were arrested from Goa in a joint operation by the Haryana special task force (STF) and the Delhi Police while two others, Atul of Delhi and Deepak Sangwan (alias Nakul) of Narnaul, are still at large.

“We questioned 30 persons based on technical inputs and other evidence to reach the accused. They were carrying cash while travelling from Rewari to Gujarat and Maharashtra. Atul and Nakul were also with Ashish and Sachin, but the former duo moved to another place on Saturday evening,” said Waseem Akram, SP, STF, Haryana. The last location of Atul and Nakul was traced to Mumbai, hence their teams along with Maharashtra, Mumbai and Goa cops were conducting raids on their possible hideouts to arrest them. Though it was yet to be confirmed that they were being guided by some foreign-based handlers after the commission of crime, some evidence hinting in that direction had been obtained, he claimed.

“The two youths seen sitting on the front seat of a car in the CCTV footage on the day of the crime were Atul and Nakul. One of them was seen talking on the phone. That call proved instrumental in arresting the accused. The car was provided to them by some youths who were arrested by the Faridabad police in a murder case recently,” Akram added.

Jhajjar SP Arpit Jain said all airport authorities had been alerted about the remaining two accused so that they could not flee abroad. The verification of a social media post uploaded in the name of notorious criminal Kapil Sangwan, alias Nandu, claiming responsibility for the murders was underway, he added. “The motive behind the crime and information about others involved in the crime will be ascertained during the remand of the accused,” he added.

INLD state chief Nafe Singh Rathi (66) and his aide Jai Kishan were gunned down at the Barahi level crossing in Bahadurgarh on February 25.
