Chandigarh, January 17

The state government is outlining pilot projects in cluster mode for ensuring the progress of agriculture and farmers. These projects aim at boosting crop diversification, micro-irrigation schemes, livestock improvement and other allied activities.

The Haryana Kisan Kalyan Pradhikaran will formulate new schemes to promote organic farming, natural farming and cooperative farming.

A decision in this regard was taken by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar while chairing the third general body meeting of the Haryana Kisan Kalyan Pradhikaran here today.

Energy Minister Ranjit Singh, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister JP Dalal, Cooperation Minister Banwari Lal, Development and Panchayat Minister Devender Singh Babli and Chairman of the Haryana Kisan Kalyan Pradhikaran Subhash Barala also attended the meeting.

The CM stressed on adopting new agricultural systems alongside traditional farm practices to increase the income of small and marginal farmers.

He highlighted the possibilities in the livestock sector for farmers to enhance their income. Cooperative farming is also crucial for addressing the challenges of small landholdings and promoting food-processing industries.

He directed the members of Haryana Kisan Kalyan Pradhikaran to prepare pilot projects in collaboration with the departments concerned, inspiring farmers along the lines of Israel’s cooperative farming technique.

He highlighted the issue of decline in water table, emphasising the need for establishing micro-irrigation projects. In areas where the groundwater level is 30 m, solar energy-based agricultural borewells should be installed and the government was ready to provide subsidies for the same. The government was also prepared to bear the water and electricity expenses, said the CM.
