Chandigarh, February 26

Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij announced a CBI probe into the killing of INLD state unit chief Nafe Singh Rathi after Congress MLAs insisted on an “independent” probe into the “political murder”.

Vij made the announcement during the Budget session, while refuting the Opposition’s contention that law and order had collapsed in the state. After nearly an hour-long discussion, in which the Congress MLAs spoke, Vij said, “If the House only wants a CBI probe, I assure the members that we will hand over the case to the CBI,” he said. The Congress wanted a CBI probe monitored by an HC judge.

Earlier, Speaker Gian Chand Gupta admitted an adjournment motion soon after question hour. Congress MLA Raghuvir Singh Kadian first raised the matter of discussion and demanded a probe during the obituary references.

After question hour, Kadian sought to know the fate of the adjournment motion. Gupta admitted it, but the Congress wanted all work suspended to discuss the law and order situation, which was allowed.
