Governor honours Karnal DC

Karnal: Governor Satyadev Narayan Arya has awarded Karnal Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav for excellent work being done by Mata Prakash Kaur welfare centre for hearing and speech disabled persons. The centre has classes I to X for hearing and speech disabled students. The Karnal centre is the first from where a batch of Class XII will pass out this year. The Karnal centre has boarding facility and has 215 students. The government runs eight such centres in the state.

Activities to empower women

Karnal: A week-long programme on International Women’s Day at the National Dairy Research Institute concluded on Sunday. During the week, activities were organised by students for empowering women. A key lecture was delivered by Dr Jyoti Gupta, MD, Amritdhara Hospital. Dr MS Chauhan, Director, said they were empowering women through various activities. Dr RRB Singh, Joint Director, said women were getting good positions, but improvement was needed in many parts of the country. Students took part in painting, collage making, clay modelling and poster making on health-related issues. A street play was organised on empowering women.

Camp on sleep and snoring

Karnal: A free check-up and awareness camp was organised on Sunday. Dr Manish Bathla made people aware about sleep disorder and snoring. He gave them tips for better sleep. He said quality of life could be improved with healthy sleep. “March 12 is World Sleep Day, which is an opportunity to draw attention to the benefits of good and healthy sleep. We will make people aware about good sleep,” he said.

Covid awareness campaign

Rewari: Under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, Indira Gandhi University carried out a special campaign to make people aware about novel coronavirus in Budana village. Yoga expert Dharamveer educated villagers and schoolchildren about the fatal disease. He said there was no need to panic, but everyone needed to adopt some precautions.

Sonepat: In a meeting of district officers under the asset management programme, Deputy Commissioner Anshaj Singh directed them to upload details of land property of their offices on the web portal of the government without delay. They were asked to get land registered with the Revenue Department and compare it with revenue records available in tehsil offices. They were directed to upload cases related to encroachment on land and litigation in courts.

Cooking competition held

Kaithal: OSDAV Public School organised “power up my plate” competition. In the first round, students brought food prepared by their mothers. In the second round, fathers packed food in tiffins. In the third round, select fathers prepared dishes without cooking.

Minister lists priorities

Kaithal: Women and Child Development Minister Kamlesh Dhanda on Saturday said the government was committed to improvements in health, education and security to women. She said officials should be serious while disposing of public complaints. She said benefits of welfare schemes should reach the people targeted in a time-bound manner. She warned that laxity by officials would invite strict action.

Women’s week ends

Yamunanagar: The closing ceremony of women’s week was organised at Guru Nanak Khalsa College. Deputy Superintendent of Police Surinder Kaur said women were moving ahead in every sphere. College patron Bhupendra Singh Johar and president Randeep Singh Johar threw light on college activities.

Capacity building event

Kurukshetra: The examination branch of Kurukshetra University, in collaboration with the Centre for Continuing Education organised a one-day capacity building workshop on Saturday for employees of examination branches. Air Marshal PS Bhangu (retd) said positive thinking, positive attitude, positive behaviour passion and persistence played a pivotal role in capacity building. Controller of Examinations Hukam Singh spoke on reforms for automation of its examination system.
