Gender test racket busted in Rewari, 3 held

With the arrest of three persons, the district health authorities today claimed to have busted a gang involved in sex-determination racket.

The accused were active in the National Capital Region and used a portable ultrasound machine to conduct the test on pregnant women in a moving car.

The accused have been identified as Balwan Singh of Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh), Ramphal and Mohammad Abdulha of Delhi. One of them is a quack who used to conduct the test. The team also seized the machine and the car used in the crime.

“The accused used an unregistered ultrasound machine to perform the test and charged between Rs 80,000 and Rs 1 lakh from the customer. They were caught while conducting the test in the car in Dhaaruhera area here,” said a doctor, adding that Rs 36,000 had also been recovered from their possession.
