Chandigarh, March 21

Haryana reported four new coronavirus positive cases on Saturday, officials say.

Two coronavirus cases were reported from Gurugram, and one each from Panchkula and Sonepat.

One of Gurugram’s two cases was a gynaecologist at a local civil hospital who was reportedly entrusted with collecting samples of suspected coronavirus cases. Sources said after she began to show symptoms herself, her swab sample was sent to PGIMS Rohtak, which tested them positive.  Pune’s National Institute of Virology has to now confirm the preliminary test.

Meanwhile, 11 doctors and paramedic staff who were associated with her are also being screened.

The second patient is a 16-year-old boy from Gurugram’s Palam Vihar, whose sister tested positive two days ago.

In Sonepat, a young girl who returned from the UK on March 18 reported herself to Bhagat Phool Singh Medical College after she began to show symptoms of fever and cold.  She tested positive on Friday. Her family and those whom she recently met have been put under surveillance.

In Panchkula woman, a 40-year-old woman who recently gave a massage to Chandigarh’s first coronavirus victim tested positive. She was made to undergo a test after the Chandigarh victim tested positive.

The woman’s 17-year-old son, however, tested negative. Reports of her husband, daughter and another son are now awaited.

Meanwhile, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who held a review meeting with deputy commissioners, commissioners, chemists, traders and police officials, ordered authorities to ensure essential commodities were well-stocked to prevent panic buying and hoarding. He also asked them to ensure that goods are not sold for more than their MRPs.

“We can fight Covid by social distancing. PM Narendra Modi has called for Janta Curfew on Sunday. We must stay indoors. We have to make it successful. However, medical staff, police, media and those who have to provide essential commodities will keep working,” he said after the meeting.

Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda also appealed to the public to follow social distancing, stay indoors and wash their hands often.
