Chandigarh, January 28

Former legislator Rampal Majra today resigned from the BJP in protest against, what he termed as the “failure” of the Centre to bring the situation under control at the Red Fort on the Republic Day.

“The Union Home Ministry is responsible for the violence at Red Fort. Intelligence agencies were clueless. The Republic Day is a day of pride for us, but the Centre couldn’t protect Red Fort,” he told the media.

The three-time MLA further said he was snapping ties with a party that had failed to protect the nation on the Republic Day and fulfil farmers’ demands for more than two months.

He clarified he had not yet thought about joining any other party. “At present, my focus is to fight with farmers and get the laws repealed.”

Before joining the BJP, Majra was in the INLD. He represented Kalayat in the Assembly.

He congratulated INLD leader Abhay Chautala for resigning from the Vidhan Sabha in support of farmers.
