Kurukshetra, February 18

Bhartiya Kisan Union (Charuni) chief Gurnam Singh today said that farmers unions, khap panchayats and other associations are planning a joint agitation in Haryana.

After extending support to the agitating farmers, the BKU (Charuni) chief had organised a joint meeting of the representatives of various farmer unions, khap panchayats and associations at Brahma Sarovar in Kurukshetra. As per the information available, representatives of about 15 unions and khap panchayats were present at the meeting.

While addressing the meeting, Gurnam Singh said, “Though the union leaders, who had given the call of agitation, didn’t consult us before giving the call, it is our duty to support the farmers. We can’t leave the farmers alone. Their demands are genuine and we support the demands.”

After the meeting, Gurnam Singh said, “We will give the next call on Monday after discussion with representatives of all farmer unions and organisations.”

“Farmers should have presence in Lok Sabha and state Assemblies if they want their voices to be heard. The people elected by the farmers are ordering action against farmers who have been struggling to get their genuine demands fulfilled,” he added.

Meanwhile, coordinator of Sarva Khap panchayat Om Prakash Dhankar, who attended the meeting, said, “We have no faith left in the government. We are ready to join the Punjab farmers in their struggle. We advise them not to get stuck on the issue of moving on tractors only. They can reach Delhi without tractors as there are thousands of tractors available in Delhi.”
