New Delhi, July 28

The Centre has extended the exemption period for the use of coal and other traditional fuels by industrial units in eight districts of Haryana, which are also part of NCR, till the time LPG, PNG and CNG pipelines were laid in those districts.

This was informed by Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar following his meeting with Environment and Labour Minister Bhupender Yadav here.

Sources said during the discussion, Yadav underlined to Khattar to speed up the works to lay the needed pipelines for proposed alternatives to traditional fuels.

The exemption period has been extended because the works to lay the network of CNG, PNG and LPG pipelines have not been completed.

The Haryana Government, in line with the national policy, has decided not to allow the usage of traditional fuel to mitigate air pollution in Delhi and NCR in future. In effect, only the use of LPG, CNG and PNG will be permitted. —TNS
