Kurukshetra, June 18

The election for the post of chairman of the Shahabad Municipal Committee has become a prestige issue for the sitting Jannayak Janta Party MLA Ram Karan Kala and former BJP MLA Krishan Kumar Bedi. Though the BJP-JJP decided to go together in the MC poll and the JJP introduced Dr Gulshan Kwatra as its candidate, BJP’s Krishan Bedi continues to support Independent candidate Tilakraj Aggarwal openly.

Though, Aggarwal was expecting a BJP ticket, he had to file his papers as an Independent candidate. Both Bedi and Ram Karan were vocal against each other during the campaigning. Unhappy with the BJP leaders supporting an Independent candidate, the JJP MLA has been seeking action against Bedi and accusing him of working against the BJP-JJP alliance.

The MLA in a letter to BJP state president OP Dhankar and its copy to the Haryana Chief Minister mentioned that Bedi is supporting an Independent candidate and the local unit is working on Bedi’s directions. He also accused Bedi of interfering in the development work of the constituency. Ram Karan Kala, who is also the chairman of the Haryana State Federation of Co-operative Sugar Mills Limited, said, “I have raised objection with the Independent candidate using BJP leaders’ pictures and the BJP leader supporting him as well. There have been several other issues which I will raise with the senior leaders of the party after the MC elections.”
