Gurugram, February 17

Suhani Bhatnagar, who played the role of young Babita Kumari Phogat in Aamir Khan’s 2016 film Dangal, died at AIIMS-Delhi today. She was 19.

Suhani had suffered a leg fracture, and the medication she received during the treatment allegedly led to complications. It is reported that her body started retaining fluid, which is believed to be the reason behind her death.

Her death was confirmed by Aamir Khan’s production house. A note on Instagram read, “We are deeply saddened to hear about our Suhani passing away. Our heartfelt condolences to her mother Poojaji, and the entire family. Such a talented young girl, such a team player, Dangal would have been incomplete without Suhani.” The note ended with, “Suhani, you will always remain a star in our hearts. May you rest in peace (sic).”

Suhani became a household name after playing the role of Babita. She had also appeared in some commercials. In 2019, she took a break from acting to focus on her studies. She wasn’t active on social media.
