Karnal, March 4

In a major move aimed at upgrading the sports infrastructure in Karnal city, the Karnal Municipal Corporation (KMC) is going to construct a state-of-the-art kabaddi hall adjacent to the astroturf hockey stadium in Kailash village. The tender in this regard was floated by the KMC and two agencies have come forward. The negotiation of rates is underway. As per the tender, the estimated cost of the project is Rs 2.85 crore.

As per the authorities, it will be the second kabaddi hall in the city as one is being constructed at Karna stadium under the first phase of its redevelopment work. The authorities claimed that these halls would boost kabaddi culture in the district.

“We have planned to construct a Kabaddi hall, which was announced by the CM. Land has been earmarked adjacent to the Astroturf hockey stadium. The rates have been sent to the chief engineer for approval. We are hopeful that the work will start soon on this project,” said Abhishek Meena, Commissioner, KMC.

Meena claimed that the facility would serve as a hub for training, competitions and fostering talent. Initially, the focus would be on constructing the hall, with plans to incorporate additional amenities in subsequent phases.

“In this tender, only a hall will be constructed and later another tender will be floated to ensure other facilities there,” Meena added.

He said it would help in enhancing the sports culture and also create opportunities for aspiring players to hone their skills, said the Commissioner.

Satish Sharma, XEN, KMC, said two agencies came forward and now the negotiation of rates was being done. The agency will have to complete the work in six months.

Hamid Tomar, kabaddi coach, said, “With the construction of this hall, we will have two dedicated halls for kabaddi in the city. We will be able to organise big events in Karnal city.”
