BKU (Charuni) to hold peaceful agitation

The Bhartiya Kisan Union (Charuni) has extended its support to the agitating farmers and decided to keep the toll plazas free for three hours tomorrow and then hold a tractor parade on February 17.

The union has also invited all farmers’ unions, sarpanch associations and khap panchayats for a meeting on February 18 in Kurukshetra to decide the future course of action.

BKU (Charuni) chief Gurnam Singh, after holding a meeting of office-bearers of the union in Kurukshetra, said, “Because of the decisions of some leaders, we can’t leave the farmers alone on the roads. A large number of farmers have suffered injuries during the agitation. We have decided to support them.”

“The union will hold peaceful protests in Haryana. We invite all farmer unions, sarpanch associations and khap panchayats to keep the toll plazas free from 12 noon to 3 pm tomorrow. Our units in Punjab and Uttar Pradesh will also hold protests in their areas. On Sunday, a joint meeting of various unions and associations will be held at Brahma Sarovar to decide the future course of action,” he said while speaking to mediapersons. Meanwhile, after two days of action, the situation remained peaceful at the Shambhu border.

A senior official said since there was no aggressive action from protesters today, tear gas was not used.
