BKU changes plan to assemble at Shambhu border

Ambala, November 24

With the police barricading the Shambhu border ahead of the farmers’ call for Delhi chalo against the three controversial farm laws, the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Charuni) has dropped its plan of assembling there and instead decided to gather in front of the Mohra grain market on the Delhi-Amritsar National Highway. They will start the “kisan yatra” to Delhi on November 25.

BKU (Charuni) chief Gurnam Singh Charuni said, “As the authorities started to barricade the Shambhu border and the police detained some of our leaders, we decided to change the meeting point. Some of our leaders have gone into hiding to evade detention. Farmers from Ambala, Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra, Panchkula, Kaithal and Karnal will assemble outside the grain market no matter what. They will break barricades, if needed.”

Ambala DC Ashok Sharma and SP Rajesh Kalia, meanwhile, visited the Shambhu and Saddopur borders in Ambala to take stock of the situation.

Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kalia said, “We have to stop the entry of Punjab farmers into Haryana. Police officers in maximum force will be deployed at the Shambhu and Saddopur borders, which will be barricaded. A route plan to divert traffic has been chalked out.”

Deputy Commissioner Ashok Sharma said, “Arrangements are being made to maintain law and order and ensure that no one faces any inconvenience. There will be traffic diversions.” — TNS
