Sonepat, December 14

The concrete barricades at the Singhu border had been removed completely after over a year on Tuesday and initially, cars would be allowed to ply here from Wednesday, revealed Deputy Commissioner Lalit Siwach.

Soon after the farmers vacated the protest site, the teams of district administration, NHAI and the Delhi Police have been carrying out a special drive to clean the area on war footing.

The DC along with SP Rahul Sharma and other officials visited the protest site to take note of the cleaning of the NH-44 in the evening.

DC Siwach said it was a challenging job to clean the NH-44 within 48 hours. “All potholes have been filled and around 95% patch work on the Haryana side has been completed on Tuesday and the rest 5% will be done in the night,” he added.

It was decided that initially, small vehicles, including cars, would be allowed to pass through the Singhu border while heavy ones — trucks, loading vehicles, containers and others — should have to pass through the alternate roads as before, the DC added. — TNS
