Haryana Backward Commission Member Prof SK Gakhar has been appointed Vice-Chairperson of the Haryana State Higher Education Council, Haryana. His appointment orders were issued on Tuesday.

The 65-year-old Prof Gakhar is a renowned academician and has long administrative experience in higher educational institutions. He has served as Vice-Chancellor at two state universities—Indira Gandhi University (IGU), Rewari, and Ch Bansi Lal University, Bhiwani.

Retired as Professor from Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) Rohtak, Gakhar has also served as founder Director, Centre for Medical Biotechnology, Bioinformatics and Biotechnology, Director of Distance Education, Computer Center, Public Relations and adviser, Foreign Students Cell at MDU.

Prof Gakhar was awarded the Young Scientist Award in 1991. He has written two books and published 189 research papers in various national and international journals.
